Cybersickness Is Real, But So Too Is Recovery.

 Most individuals are forced to live their lives online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Cybersickness" is on the rise across all ages as more people turn to their screens for entertainment. Even before the pandemic, cybersickness had been explored mostly in the context of virtual reality games that were just getting started. Researchers have discovered that cybersickness can cause nausea, dizziness and ocular motor abnormalities, according to a study by Kay Stanney and colleagues, which will be published in the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction in 2020. 



Cybersickness, according to a recent piece in National Geographic, is like seasickness in reverse. An example of this would be when you're on a boat and your perception tells you that you're supposed to be standing stationary. When you are in a virtual environment, your body is immobile, but your senses are detecting motion. There are various measures that can be used to alleviate the dizziness and discomfort of excessive screen usage. With acupressure techniques and a motion sickness band, the Sea-Band wristband, for example, is supposed to reduce symptoms of motion sickness. Sea-Bands, in particular, have studs sewed inside that gently and steadily apply pressure to the P6 (Nei-Kuan) acupressure point. Motion sickness nausea can be relieved by applying pressure to this spot, according to scientific research. "Because the bands don't employ pharmaceuticals, they don't cause any of the adverse effects associated with anti-nausea drugs and can be worn on either wrist whenever you feel queasy," according to the company's website. Sea-Band bracelets can be worn by anyone, including adults and children, and, according to the business, they have a noticeable effect on symptoms within five minutes of wearing them. As a result, they can be combined with other anti-nausea treatments. They are latex-free, washable and reusable. There are a number of conditions that Sea-Bands can aid with, including motion sickness, cyber-sickness, and post-surgery and chemotherapy nausea. Many health insurance plans support Sea-products Band's because they are HSA- and FSA-approved.
